VIJAYAWADA: Though seven months have elapsed since the occurrence of the sensational theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) in the city, there is no breakthrough in the case as yet.

It may be recalled that one G Priyanka was relieved of 450 g gold ornaments by a man who offered her help posing as her relative at the PNBS on November 28 last year. Priyanka, who lives in the US, belongs to Nizamabad town. She came to Vijayawada to attend her friend’s wedding ceremony when the incident took place.

Though five teams have been formed by the Krishnalanka police, none of them have been able to find any clue that could lead to the arrest of the accused.

Krishnalanka CI SK Ali said that the investigation is still going on. He said the police is examining the role of habitual offenders at the PNBS. However, a senior police officer said that the role of robber gangs from Maharashtra or Madhya Pradesh is suspected in the case.

“If we are able to nab these gangs, we can get some clues that may be useful in solving the case,” he added.
