Express News Service

VISAKHAPATNAM:The much awaited restoration works of Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Bhavan on the Beach Road is going to kick-start today. Rajya Sabha member T Subbarami Reddy announced funds from his MPLADS to carry out the restoration works of the memorial of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Earlier on October 11, Express had reported the prevailing condition of the memorial, which was badly hit by cyclone Hudhud last year.

The report had also pointed out that no efforts were taken up by officials to restore the building, despite the vice-president of AICC Rahul Gandhi visiting the spot after the cyclone in October last year and promising to revamp it.

The restoration works will be formally launched by T Subbarami Reddy in the presence of HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, GVMC commissioner J Pravin Kumar and other State ministers Tuesday.
