HYDERABAD: In a relief to actor-turned-politician and Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi, Justice A V Sesha Sai of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday quashed the criminal proceedings pending against Chiranjeevi in Nandyal police station of Kurnool district.

Chiranjeevi claimed in his petition that the Nandyal police registered a case against him in 2008 while he was participating in a road show as the president of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party on the ground of causing obstruction to the general public and free flow of traffic.

While urging the court to quash the proceedings against him, he recalled that in similar cases the High Court had found fault with registration of crime basing on the police proceedings without any independent complainant to report the crime.

Agreeing with the petitioner’s contentions, the judge allowed the plea.
