HYDERABAD: Noted Malayalam film actress Kalpana Ranjini, popularly known as Kalpana, died of heart attack at a hotel here in the wee hours of Monday. The body will be taken to Kerala on Tuesday morning.

Kalpana, 51, was in Hyderabad to attend the inaugural of IIFA Utsavam awards held on January 24 and 25. According to sources she suffered a massive heart attack in sleep. She was found unconscious in her hotel room and rushed to Apollo hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Her sisters Urvashi and Kalaranjini are also famous actresses. Kalpana who received the national award for the best supporting actress in 2012 is survived by her daughter Sreemayi.

Kalpana, who made her debut in G Aravindan’s Pokkuveyil in 1981, has acted in around 300 films, with her latest Malayalam film Charlie still running successfully at cinemas in Kerala.

Her last film will be Nagarjuna-Karthi’s upcoming Tamil-Telugu bilingual Oopiri. According to PVP Cinemas, the film’s makers, she had already completed shooting for her part in the film and there was only some patchwork left.
