KIRLAMPUDI: Police foiled Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham's second attempt to take out a protest march — Chalo Amaravati — seeking BC status for Kapus on Thursday morning for not having valid permission.

As announced, the Kapu patriarch came out of his residence at Kirlampudi to resume his march but the police stopped him, asking him to return to his residence since he had not obtained permission from the police department.

The police maintained that for protests like 'Padayatras', the Supreme Court had issued guidelines for granting permission. Unless the Kapu leader applied the proper format and took permission, he would not be allowed to continue his yatra.

Padmanabham retorted by asking if  Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had taken permission for his padayatra in 2014 when he was the Opposition leader. If Naidu had applied and taken permission in accordance with the Supreme court guidelines, he too would follow suit.

When the police turned a deaf ear to his protests, Pamdnabham lost his patience and declared that he would continue to make attempts to take out his march. He then went back into his house even as kapu activists from different parts of the district kept arriving at his residence to lend support to him.

Apprehending trouble, a large contingent of police was posted at his residence and the village to prevent crowds from entering and creating trouble.
