Low pressure over Bay to trigger heavy rain in AP

Heavy rains are very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast. The weather system is likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours. 

“Under its influence, heavy rains are very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and light to moderate rains in the districts of Rayalaseema in the next 24 hours,” said an IMD report.  

In the last 24 hours, southwest monsoon has been active over coastal AP, where isolated heavy rains occurred in Srikakulam and East Godavari districts. Tekkali in Srikakulam district recorded 11 cm rainfall, the highest,  followed by 7 cm at Vararamachandrapur in  East Godavari district, 6 cm at Velairpad in West Godavari district, 5 cm at Palasa in Srikakulam district, Avanigada in Krishna district.
