VISAKHAPATNAM: With the low pressure brewing over Bay of Bengal becoming well-marked on Monday, the weathermen have issued heavy rain warning for north coastal Andhra districts. On Monday, the north coastal districts witnessed isolated heavy rain and the IMD officials said that more rainfall was expected in the next 24 hours as the low pressure zone lying over the northern AP is likely to be intensified into a depression.
“The trough on Sea Level Chart now runs from Odisha to south Tamil Nadu prevails over the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Under its influence, all districts of coastal AP may receive heavy rain, while Rayalaseema may get light to moderate rains in the next 72 hours,” said YK Reddy, director in-charge of IMD, Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Warning Centre, Vizag, said that strong surface winds from westerly direction reaching a speed up to 55 kmph is likely to blow along and off coastal AP. It advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea. Skymetweather suggests that as on July 16, coastal AP received 25 per cent surplus rainfall, while the same for Rayalaseema is 10 per cent.
Out of the 670 mandals in AP, 204 have recorded excess rainfall deviation, while 154 mandals have registered deficient rainfall deviation.
