VIJAYAWADA: Prominent architects of Foster + Partners known for their designs and projects around the world including prestigious structures such as the London Headquarters of Swiss Re and the German Parliament, seem to have failed to impress Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with their models for the Government Administrative Complex (GAC) to come up in Amaravati.
The Chief Minister, who is in London, inspected the designs of the Legislative Assembly, High Courts and Secretariat, which are a part of the GAC, for the second consecutive day on Wednesday and once again sought tweaks on the designs. During a meeting with chief architect Norman Robert Foster, Naidu asserted that he wanted Amaravati to be one of the top 5 cities in the world.
“All the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh have high expectations on us and are eagerly waiting for creative iconic designs. The onus of impressing the public lies on us,’’ the Chief Minister said.
Asserting that the government handed over the responsibility of designing the GAC to Foster + Partners to get the best possible outcome, the Chief Minister said the final designs should reflect the aspirations of the people.
He also said Foster + Partners would remain immortal in the hearts of Andhras as the firm that gave life to Amaravati. The state government had, after rejecting designs submitted by Maa Ki architects from Japan last year, handed over the project to London-based Foster + Partners in early 2017.
