ANANTAPUR: A few hours after Anantapur MP J C Diwakar Reddy’s sensational announcement of resignation as MP for failing to ensure water in Chagallu Reservoir in his native Tadipatri, oral orders were issued to the Irrigation department officials in the district to release water to Chagallu Reservoir.
As per the orders, water from Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir (PABR) will be released at a discharge rate of 300 cusecs to Chagallu Reservoir.

According to sources, Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao had issued the orders after discussing the issue with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The same was informed to the MP over phone. Earlier on Thursday, Diwakar Reddy, during a press conference, announced that he is resigning as MP as he is unable to make any contribution to the development of Anantapur district.

The MP was in fact peeved at the lack of response to the request made for releasing water to Chagallu Reservoir during the DDRC meeting. He said what is the use of being an MP when his word has no value.
“I will submit my resignation to the Lok Sabha speaker next Wednesday,”he said. He also claimed that there are some forces which are hindering the development of the district. Meanwhile, it is learnt that Diwakar Reddy’s family has several hundreds of acres of land in the ayacut of Chagallu Reservoir. Though water is being asked for the drinking water purpose, it is being said it will be used for irrigating purposes for the Kharif season.
