VISAKHAPATNAM: A day after the foundation stone was laid for the global convention centre proposed in Vizag amid fanfare, all the Opposition parties have upped the ante against the allocation of land for the project to the Saudi-based LuLu Group which had been entrusted with the construction works.

The leaders from YSRC, Left parties and Lok Satta met in Vizag on Sunday and declared that they would not allow any construction works at the allotted site and continue agitations till the project was cancelled.

The YSRC leaders said the government had allocated the land worth crores to the LuLu Group. “Why was the Chief Minister in a hurry to lay the foundation stone without any prior announcement? The move aims at acquiring private land and allot the government land to a private company at a throw-away price. The government is enthusiastic to cede lands worth crores to big corporates,” said YSRC city president Malla Vijaya Prasad.
