Vijayanagaram: Pregnant woman carried to nearest hospital after 30 hours of journey, suffers miscarriage

On Sunday, the woman Tondatamara Ginde of Sirivara village in remote Padam panchayat of Saluru mandal had a miscarriage in her fifth month of pregnancy.

VIJAYAWADA: At a time when road connectivity to every nook and cranny of the country is much boasted upon, it took almost 30 hours for a woman to reach to a nearby hospital with the help of two family members who walked all the way from an interior tribal hamlet to a plain area with the woman being transported in a makeshift `stretcher.' The woman was carried in a basket made of bamboo which was tied to a bamboo stick and carried by two persons on their shoulders who walked day-in and day-out to reach a medical centre.

On Sunday, the woman Tondatamara Ginde of Sirivara village in remote Padam panchayat of Saluru mandal had a miscarriage in her fifth month of pregnancy. She delivered a still born baby in her village itself. Ginde developed post-delivery complications and she has to be shifted to a hospital.

For a normal person, it takes six hours to reach a plain area from the interior hamlet and Ginde was not in a position to even walk a few steps. His family members made her sit in a bamboo basket, tied it to a bamboo pole and walked for 3o long hours to reach Parvathipuram, reports reaching here said.

The marathon started on Sunday evening and they could make it to Parvathipuram by Monday late night. From there, she was shifted in an 108 ambulance where she was diagnosed with infection in her body and a poor haemoglobin count of 4.6. She could make it hospital at the correct time. If there was delay of even few minutes, she might had died,'' a medical officer said adding that Ginde did not had a medical diagnosis even once in her five months of pregnancy.
