Andhra Pradesh: One dead, seven injured in bear attack at Srikakulam

SRIKAKULAM: A 50-year old woman died and seven persons were injured in a wild bear attack at Yerramukkam village of Sompeta mandal in Srikakulam district on Sunday.

Out of seven injured, the condition of four is said to be critical. Angry villagers chased down the bear and killed it later near Pitali village in Mandasa mandal.

The deceased has been identified as Baipilli Urmila, a resident of  Yerramukkam village of Sompeta mandal. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday at the outskirts of the village. 

According to sources, the bear attacked Urmila, while she was carrying the garbage to dump at the outskirts. Noticing the attack,  Urmila's husband and other few villagers rushed to her rescue and fought with the bear. Seven of them were injured and were rushed to Palasa Government Hospital along with Urmila. She died while undergoing treatment. With the condition of four injured turning critical, they were referred to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.  Police registered a case.
