VIJAYAWADA: The Health department has released a Government Order sanctioning 19 more gynaecology units in teaching hospitals across the State. Each unit will have 30 beds.According to the GO, 266 posts, which include professor, assistant professor, associate professor, head nurse and staff nurse, would be filled and 147 posts through outsourcing by spending Rs 35 crore.
Officials said that the recruitment process would be completed in next two months. Of the 25 teaching hospitals in the State, 12 have obstetrics and gynaecology departments. The government sanctioned 19 additional units to eight teaching hospitals.
In the obstetrics and gynaecology departments of 12 hospitals, 1,227 beds have been sanctioned. With the 19 more units, a total of 570 more beds are going to be added in the gynaecology wards of government hospitals. After reports of two or more patients sharing a single bed in obstetrics and gynaecology departments in all government hospitals in the State, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) had sent a proposal to State government requesting it to sanction additional units. The State government gave a nod for the same and released the order on Friday.
Speaking to TNIE, Dr K Shashank, Director of Medical Education (academics), said, “We hope the entire staff selection process will be completed within two months.”A staff nurse at GGH, Vijayawada, says, “We are happy as the government at last sanctioned a few posts and beds in gynaecology wards.”
