HYDERABAD: Former Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, IYR Krishna Rao and Ajeya Kallam alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his ministers were using cyclone Titli-hit areas in Srikakulam district as a platform to further their political ends.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Rao wondered what was the use of Naidu and ministers visiting the cyclone-affected areas when there were no measures taken before the disaster struck and alleged that government officials were forced to run behind the CM during his tours in the areas.

Kallam said that when AP suffered from two major cyclones in 1977 and 1990, the then Chief Ministers did not hamper the process of restoration by making frequent visits.

The State failed in utilising Rs 1,250 crore provided by the Central government for putting in place disaster mitigation measures, he alleged and added that the government failed to follow the guidelines laid down as part of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Jana Chaitanya Vedika president VL  Reddy also spoke to the media.
