VIJAYWADA: Emphasising that the State government has access to the ‘chargesheet reports’ filed in the US in connection with the bribery case involving the previous YSRCP government and the Adani Group, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday promised to act on the irregularities.
Speaking in the State Legislative Assembly after some members demanded action against YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naidu said, “I have all the chargesheet reports that filed there (US). It is in public domain. Will study it (the allegations and indictment) and act on it as required and inform you.”
The US Securities and Exchange Commission accused Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani of offering a bribe of Rs 1,750 crore to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, when he was Chief Minister in August 2021 to secure power purchase agreements with various distribution companies in Andhra Pradesh.
Both Adani and YSRCP have strongly denied the charges.
When BJP floor leader P Vishnu Kumar Raju raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly, other members sought a discussion on the subject.
Jagan has now become a global leader in scams, Vishnu Kumar quipped and said, “As a responsible government, we have to take it upon ourselves to determine the veracity of the allegations levelled against Jagan.”
Highlighting other allegations levelled against the former Chief Minister with regards to other big projects, he claimed that Jagan had handed over Gangavaram project at a throwaway price.
Responding to the outburst, he said for the past five months, the government has been analysing the destruction and corruption involving the previous government over five years and discussing how to go forward to address them.
Naidu stressed, “It is our bounden duty to address public issues, as people have given the mandate for the same. AP’s brand image suffered a serious dent during Jagan’s regime, more so with the latest episode. We are anguished over the developments. Facts have to come out. We will verify those facts and inform all members of the House, as to what action will be taken. Wrongdoers must be punished to ensure mistakes don’t recur.”
