VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and the Government of Moscow have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to collaborate on urban transport, digital innovation and industrial development.
GVMC CommissionerKetan Garg and Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development, signed the agreement during the 5th International Transport Summit held in Moscow, Russia, in the presence of Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat.
The Commissioner said the partnership would help Visakhapatnam adopt global practices in sustainable urban transport, smart mobility, digital technologies, technology transfer and industrial cooperation. He added that the cooperation would support the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) as a centre for economic growth and technological innovation in Andhra Pradesh.
Tie-up with Moscow to cover energy storage
The agreement is an outcome of the visit of Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, Information Technology and Electronics Nara Lokesh to Russia in June 2026, during which discussions were held with Moscow’s transport officials on cooperation in urban mobility, connectivity, transport infrastructure and technology.
Under the MoC, both sides will work on developing modern and sustainable urban transport systems, integrated transport plans, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and digital ticketing infrastructure.
The partnership also covers the use of digital technologies in transport, integration of Artificial Intelligence in urban transport management, autonomous transport infrastructure and participation in the Urban Transport Data Project.
The cooperation includes areas such as automotive and electronics manufacturing, energy storage systems, vertical transport solutions, technology transfer and exchange of technical experts.
Speaking on the occasion, MP M Sribharat said the agreement would help bring the latest transport technologies and global practices from Russia to Visakhapatnam under the guidance of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana said the cooperation would strengthen Visakhapatnam’s role as a hub in the northern region under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region.
Principal Secretary, MA&UD Department, S Suresh Kumar said the partnership would enable knowledge exchange, sharing of best practices and access to solutions in urban mobility and digital transformation.
The GVMC Commissioner said the agreement would help improve urban infrastructure, promote technology-based solutions.
