NEW DELHI: A Lucknow realtor and son of a former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader was booked for brandishing a handgun in the foyer of a five-star hotel in south Delhi, the police said on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Ashish Pandey, is the son of former MP Rakesh Pandey who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. His brother, Ritesh Pandey, is a sitting MLA from Jalapur constituency in Ambedkar Nagar.

The incident, which happened over the weekend, came to light on Monday night after a video of it went viral. The police then intervened, and the assistant security manager of the hotel lodged a complaint at the R K Puram police station.

“A case, under sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, was registered subsequent to the video. Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt),  Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC have also been added to the complaint,” DCP (southwest) Devender Arya said.

In the clip that went viral, Ashish is seen brandishing a gun and threatening a couple outside the Hyatt Regency hotel in Delhi. Another woman and a security guard are seen holding him back, and trying to calm him down.

The quarrel began after the woman Pandey was seen threatening allegedly objected to him entering the women’s washroom, the police said. A Look Out Circular has been issued against him.
