NEW DELHI: Miranda House College students protested against the “deteriorating quality of food” on Wednesday, even as the administration denied the allegation.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) expressed solidarity with the students, claiming they were forced to subsist on dry bread and “substandard meals.”

Videos of the protest made rounds on social media, showing students demonstrating by banging plates.

Students alleged that the quality of the food has been deteriorating ever since the LPG crisis started.

The college administration claimed that the protest was not related to a gas crisis. “The protest was triggered by the students’ complaint that the food served contained excessive chilli. The food and meals in the hostel are prepared daily in accordance with the students’ preferences,” a college official said. The Left-backed AISA asserted: “Nutritious food is a right.”
