BANGALORE: Miscreants on Tuesday night attacked the residence of B J Puttaswamy, politicalsecretary to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

With this, the on-going war of words between the ruling BJP and the Opposition JD(S) has taken a nasty turn as Puttaswamy claimed the miscreants were “supporters of former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy”.

The police have arrested around 14 youth for causing trouble in the premises of Puttaswamy’s residence.

Police officials told Express that at about 9.30 pm a crowd had gathered in front of Puttaswamy’s residence and shouted slogans against him and in favour of Kumaraswamy.

“The crowd was angry with Puttaswamy for his remarks to a television channel against former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and his family members. The agitating youth used the choicest of words against Puttaswamy, Yeddyurappa and the BJP, even as they broke flower pots and damaged Puttaswamy’s car,” the police explained.

In defense, Puttaswamy said, “I have not spoken anything bad about Gowda and his family. I merely showed the records of their alleged involvement in various scams. What is wrong in that?”

“If it is correct for Kumaraswamy to abuse Yeddyurappa daily, then I am also right in releasing the documents against the Gowda family,” he asserted.

“Kumaraswamy still has a long way to go in politics. He should learn from his father. The miscreants could have killed me. The police should register a criminal case against the miscreants,” Puttaswamy said.

Following the incident, Home and Transport Minister R Ashok visited Puttaswamy’s residence and condemned the attack. He assured that action would be taken to punish the guilty.
