BANGALORE: Minister for Medical Education S A Ramdas said that teaching staff of all medical colleges and hospitals run by the department will get revised AICTE pay scale from this month.

Replying to a question raised by independent member Marithibbegowda, Ramdas said the revised salary would come into effect with retrospective effect from April 1, 2011, and around 1,840 teaching staff would benefited by this.

The state government has requested the Medical Council of India (MCI) to increase the collective intake of its medical colleges to 1,850 seats from the current 1250 seats.

Ramdas said that efforts were being made to increase PG seats to 992 from the existing 592 seats.

Stating that the government was committed to get 25 pc seats in deemed medical universities, the minister said that notices were issued to Siddarth Medical Institute, Tumkur, and Devraj Urs Medical Institute, Kolar, for not giving 25 pc seats to the state government.

There is an overwhelming response to Bhagyalakshmi scheme.

The government has received over Rs 200 crore worth additional applications above the Rs 409 crore earmarked for the scheme.
