GULBARGA: ESIC (Employee State Insurance Corporatio1n) plans to start a Medical College in Gulbarga from the next academic year if the state gives ESI the permission to use the Gulbarga District Government Hospital, said Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge.

ESI is ready to run the Medical College from next year itself if the state government permits it to use its District Government Hospital in Gulbarga till the commencement of ESI's hospital.
Also, if it does not give permission, we have to wait for the commencement of Super Specialty Hospital, Kharge added.
Kharge said, officials of ESI have already submitted a proposal in this regard to the state and once permission is granted, ESI would approach Medical Council of India (MCI) to give its approval to start the medical College. Kharge said that ESI has given permission to West Bengal government to use ESI Super Specialty Hospital to run the medical college. The same approach could be used in Karnataka as well, he said.
Kharge added, the state government is constructing a Super Speciality Hospital in Gulbarga and has proposed to run it on PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP).
The Union Minister said, he has suggested the Chief Minister establish a Government Medical College in Gulbarga as a Super Specialty Hospital is coming up here.
