Court orders probe into site allotments

The Sri Ram Sene district unit has lodged a private complaint in the District Lokayukta Court stating that there were many irregularities in the allotment of sites at J H Patel Extension and sought an inquiry against former minister S A Ravindra­nath, Mayakonda MLA Basavaraj Naik and his relatives.

Sene spokesperson Gangadhar Kulkarni told reporters on Friday that based on a complaint filed on April 16, the Lokayukta Court ordered a detailed inquiry into the allotment of sites at J H Patel Extension. A detailed report should be submitted to the court by October 26.

In the complaint, it was alleged that Ravindranath and Basavaraj Naik, former chairman of Davangere Urban Development Authority (DUDA) Yeshwanthrao Jadhav, present chairman Mallikarjunappa, former DUDA commissioner Hanumanthappa, former tahsildar of Davanagere taluk, Harish, and Naik’s relatives Guddappa, Dharmanaik, personal assistants to Naik, Sonibai, Sunitha had been allotted sites in violation of norms.

Cop Convicted

The Lokayukta Court on Friday convicted constable Ramakrishna of Adugodi police station to two years imprisonment and a fine of `15,000 in an bribery case.

In his complaint, Syed Mehaboob, of Rehmath Nagar, had alleged that Ramakrishna had purchased furniture from his shop, but refused to pay for it. When Mehboob demanded money, Ramakrishna had reportedly said there was a complaint against him and he would solve it if he was given `5 lakh. Unwilling to pay bribe, the complainant appro­ached Lokayukta police and the accused was held in 2008.
