Land feud: Family seeks mercy killing

Express News Service

Unable to bear the agony due to encroachment of land and harassment by a relative, a dejected family of five, including an 80-year-old elderly woman from Devarahalli village in Bilikere hobli of Hunsur taluk, approached the district administration seeking mercy killing on Tuesday.

Strangely, Additional Deputy Commissioner Naganayak is said to have sent them back  without even giving them a hearing. He is said to have forcibly got them removed from his chamber.

The family members include Mayamma, her daughters Savithri and Jayamma.

Mayamma has 30 guntas land in Manuganahalli. Her relative Rajegowda allegedly fabricated documents and transferred it to his name.

Following this, Savithri filed a petition before the AC’s Court in Hunsur which later cancelled the khata.

When Mayamma’s family tried to take possession of the land, Rajegowda and his men allegedly attacked her family on two occasions and cases were registered in Bilikere police station, but they went in vain. Dejected over this, Mayamma and her daughters sought mercy killing in a letter addressed to the DC. As he was on leave, they requested the ADC to accept it, but he rejected it rudely.

When contacted, Naganayak feigned ignorance over the matter. Now, the family is planning to fax the letter to the governor.
