Renukacharya's expulsion boon or bane for BJP?

M Shashi Kumar

Considered by many as the ‘wonder boy’ from Honnali, MP Renukacharya, a two-time MLA, who was the excise minister in the BJP Cabinet had never thought that he would be expelled from the party.

According to Renukacharya’s supporters, the expulsion has come as a blessing in disguise for the former minister as he wanted to quit the party. Political pundits sid that he can now choose his political path and show his strength and popularity on his own.

The MLA, who played a vital role in the ‘resort politics’ was known for his verbal support to former chief minister and KJP chief BS Yeddyurappa. He, on many occasions had openly praised Yeddyurappa, calling him his mentor and a man who boosted his political career. But after the launch of KJP in Haveri last year, confusion prevailed over Renukacharya’s political inclinations.

Interestingly, Renukacharya was instrumental in helping the BJP to capture power in Honnali Town Panchayat in the recently held Urban Local Body polls.

However, the BJP high command took a decision of expelling him from the party after his ‘unwarranted’ remarks on former chief minister Sadananda Gowda.

When the KJP came into existence, many in the BJP thought that Renukacharya would desert the saffron party and join the KJP immediately. But he instead stayed in the BJP .

But now with the BJP expelling him for its fold, Renukacharya has no other option, except joining hands with his ‘mentor’ Yeddyurappa.
