Express News Service

The Election Commission (EC) has put off the election from Periyapatna Assembly constituency to May 25 following the death of BJP candidate Sannamage Gowda.

The election was postponed to allow Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to field another candidate, said sources at Karnataka State Electoral Office here on Tuesday. The other candidates who had filed their nominations earlier will remain in fray, the sources said.

The election for the remaining 223 constituencies will take place on May 5 and counting will be held as scheduled on May 8.

For Periyapatna the last date for filing of nomination for BJP will be May 8, scrutiny will be on May 9 and May 11 will be the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. There were eight candidates in the fray.

Meanwhile, Sannamogegowda was laid to rest at his native Chowdenahalli on Tuesday.
