Former cricketer Anil Kumble has been presented ‘Kreeda Bangara’ award, instututed by the Bangarappa Foundation.

‘Sahithya Bangara’ was awarded to Dr Chandrashekara Kambara and ‘Kala Bangara’ to Dr Raja Hanumanna Nayak Dore.

Kumble announced a donation of `1 lakh to the Foundation to encourage sports in the state. The awards were presented at the valedictory function of former chief minister S Bangarappa’s 81st birth anniversary celebration here on Monday.

Bangarappa was one of the powerful leaders of the country, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said. He said Bangarappa worked for the betterment of the society and “I do follow his ideologies”. Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj said, “Bangarappa was a revolutionary and socialist. Bangarappa was also one of those public servants who connected with the masses through out his career.”.

Political intolerance as well as inequality in the society should be uprooted in the country, he said.
