A person claiming to be the father of Mandya Congress candidate Ramya has filed a petition in a court seeking a direction that he be declared her father.

In the petition filed at the City Civil and Sessions Court, B C Venkatesh said he has evidence to prove that Ramya is his daughter and her mother Ranjitha his wife.

He sought a direction from the court to declare him as Ramya’s father. Venkatesh claimed that he had married Ranjitha on June 22, 1981 at a temple and Ramya was born on November 29, 1982, at Ideal Nursing Home in Sadashivanagar. But Ramya just mentioned her mother’s name in the nomination papers.

“Till Ramya was five years old, all were together. But when I met with an accident, Ranjitha took Ramya and separated from me. Later, I requested her to return, but she didn’t. In 2005, through some friends I came to know that Ramya is my daughter. So I went to their house to meet them, but Ranjitha didn’t allow me to enter the house and insulted me and said Ramya had made her name and she is not going to accept me as her father,” he alleged.

Venkatesh said he had also filed a case in the family court in 2006 seeking directions to Ranjitha and Ramya to return to him but they didn't attend the court.

“Society should know that I am her father, so I filed a case,” Venkatesh said.
