Bangarappa's Wife Dies

After a prolonged battle with cancer from over six months, Shakuntala Bangarappa (73), wife of former chief minister S Bangarappa, died at Mallya Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

After a prolonged battle with cancer from over six months, Shakuntala Bangarappa (73), wife of former chief minister S Bangarappa, died at Mallya Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

A spokesperson of the hospital said she had been suffering from lymphoma for a long time. “She was rushed to the hospital at 2 pm. She passed away at 3.10 pm”, he added. Shakuntala is survived by four children - Geetha Shivarajkumar, Sujatha, Madhu Bangarappa and Kumara Bangarappa.

Her actor son-in-law Shivarajkumar who addressed the media outside the hospital said she had been suffering from cancer and was on chemotherapy for long.

 “I was shooting for a movie when I heard that her condition was critical. By the time I reached here, she passed away”, Shivarajkumar added.

Shakuntala, hailing from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district had married Bangarappa in 1958.
