Express News Service

MYSORE: The tradition of reception for the first batch of elephants arriving at Mysore Palace on August 16 has been cancelled in view of the royal family’s mourning period after the death of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.

On August 2, District Minister V Srinivasa Prasad announced that the first batch of elephants will be accorded a warm reception at the entrance of Mysore Palace, after they start on August 14 from Veeranahosahalli of Nagarahole National Park.

However, the festivities were cancelled after a meeting with Pramoda Devi Wadiyar on Saturday.

She informed them of the one-year mourning period and expressed her reservation to hold the rituals in the palace.
