MYSORE: Refused food and liquor, a former education minister’s son and his friends flew into a rage and allegedly set fire to a restaurant’s thatched enclosure late on Monday.

Prominent Congress leader A H Vishwanath’s son Poorvaj is at the centre of this incident, coming exactly a week after MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar allegedly slapped a constable at Skyye, a plush lounge bar in Bangalore.

Poorvaj and four friends entered Halli Mane, a wayside restaurant located on the Mysore-Bantwal road near Hunsur, at 10.30 pm and demanded biriyani and liquor, an eyewitness said.

Since it was closing time, the staff turned down their request for food. In any case, liquor is not served at the restaurant. Poorvaj and his friends went berserk, smashing furniture, flower pots and whatever else they could lay their hands on. Later, they allegedly torched a thatched enclosure and left. Poorvaj and others were already drunk when they stepped into Halli Mane, and were in no mood to listen to anyone, the staff said.  Halli Mane owner Sandesh arrived from Bangalore and lodged a complaint.
