Shiradi Ghat Opens for Traffic

SHIRADI: Minister H C Mahadevappa declared the Shiradi Ghat (NH 75) open for vehicles on Sunday. The road was closed from January 2 for concreting a 11.77 km stretch (Kempuhole to Heggadde) at a cost of Rs 69.90 crore.  He said the second phase of developing 33 km is estimated at Rs 85.28 crore, in which 21 km (Adda Hole to Kempu Hole) will be a concrete road and 12.38-km (Heggadde to Gulagalale) will be asphalted.

Tunnels: The state government has plans to build a bypass road by constructing tunnels at Shiradi Ghat, Mahadevappa said. Mahadevappa said the government has asked a private agency to study the feasibility of the project and submit it to the government. Meanwhile, Japan International Cooperation Agency has shown interest in taking up this project, he added.
