2 Chain Snatchers Arrested

Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, Bangalore South police have arrested two chain snatchers who were wanted in 23 chain snatching cases and have recovered gold ornaments worth `21 lakh.

The arrested are Mohammed Jabiuddin alias Tabrez (32 years), a resident of Arekere, and Mohammed Mehtab alias Mohammed Iliyas (26 years), a resident of Jayanagar 4th block.

Tabrez has been working as a JCB machine mechanic and Mehtab as a broker near the Ulsoor police station. They told police that they had sold the ornaments to one Amjad Khan (34) and Robertson of Kolar. Police have arrested them too.

J P Nagar inspector Sanjeev Kumar Mahajan said, “The duo snatched chains in the Subramanyapura area from a senior citizen. CCTV camera fixed nearby captured visuals of the incident. We followed the accused for a month. We wanted to know whether there are a more men with this team.” He added that these people were going about the crimes in an organised manner.

The accused have snatched chains at J P Nagar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, Banashankari, K S Layout, Subramanyapura, Thyaagarajanagar, Hanumanthanagar and Mahalakshmi Layout. 

Orphanage Chairman Held for Molestation of 12-yr-old

Police arrested the founding chairman of an orphanage in Chikkasandra in Soladevanahalli in connection with molestation of a 12-year-old girl on Wednesday.  Police said the victim was molested by the orphanage’s founder Vijay Raj (30). The victim has been residing in the orphanage for the past three years. She fled the orphanage on Wednesday and told her story to an elderly woman who saw her crying. “The woman her to the police station. Raj has confessed to the crime. Staff and children of the orphanage are being questioned now,” a policeman said.
