UDUPI: The Akki Muhurtha of the fifth Paryayotsava of Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt head Vishwesha Theertha Swami was held on Wednesday.

This Muhurtha is the second of the four rituals that are performed by the seer prior to ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha, scheduled for January 2016. The Bale Muhurtha was performed in December. Kattige and Bhattha Muhurthas are yet to be performed.

It is learnt that the seer wanted the junior seer Vishwaprasanna Theertha to take charge.  But the latter wants him to ascend the Sarvajna Peetha.  Amid chanting of religious hymns, the Pejawar seer performed rituals and offered prayers to the  Pattada Devaru (presiding deity).

He visited Chandramouleeshwara and Anantheshwara temples. He also visited Sri Krishna temple in a procession and offered prayers to Lord Krishna. Pujas were offered to Akki Mudi  kept in the golden chariot.  The seers of Ashta mutts were offered a ceremonial welcome at the Pejawar mutt.  The seers offered Malika Mangalarathi to Vishwesha Theertha Swami.

Speaking to reporters later, the seer congratulated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on the thumping victory of his party in Delhi and said it is a lesson for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  “I am not happy with the performance of Narendra Modi government in the last eight months. He should not continue with the acquisition of farmers’ land for setting up industries. Modi should do something more for the poor,” the seer added.
