'Abolish Council, it's a White Elephant'

BELAGAVI: M T Krishnappa, a JD(S) MLA, made a strong pitch on Thursday for the abolition of the Legislative Council, terming it a white elephant and a rehabilitation centre for politicians and lobbyists. Tabling a private bill in the Assembly, he said the Council has turned out to be an asylum for politicians who have lost elections.

Order on Teaching Hours Kept in Abeyance: The government has kept in abeyance the order issued by the Higher Education Department increasing the teaching hours of lecturers in first grade colleges from 16 hours to 22 hours. The government has decided to refer the matter to the UGC for its views.

Alternative Plots for SC, ST Land Losers: The government on Thursday promised to provide agricultural land to SC and ST families who lose their plots to government projects. CM Siddaramaiah disclosed this during Question Hour in the Council while responding to a question raised by former minister S Motamma.
