SUV Jumps Median, Hits Truck; 4 Killed

Express News Service

BENGALURU: Four students were killed when their speeding SUV rammed into a truck on the busy National Highway 4 near Nelamangala on Friday. The students’ dog was also killed in the accident, which disrupted traffic on the road for a while.

The deceased have been identified as Amithkumar Giri (21), Rohith (20), Srivatsav (21), all natives of Uttar Pradesh, and Amithkumar Singh (22) from Bihar.

They were studying MBA and engineering in private colleges in the city, and were living in a rented house at R T Nagar here.

Police said the incident occurred around 3.45 am at Danojipalya when Giri was driving the car, (KA-03,AB4709), belonging to a private cab agency. They were heading towards Tumakuru along with their dog when Giri, who was allegedly speeding, lost control over the car and rammed it into the median.

As a result, the car crossed the median and collided with a speeding lorry coming in the opposite direction from Mangaluru.

The four students and the dog died on the spot.

The lorry driver alerted Nelamangala Town police, who rushed to the spot and cleared the vehicles from the road.

Police blamed rash driving for the mishap and are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain whether the students were under the influence of alcohol.
