ATHANI: A couple from Talasang village in Athani taluk has started a padayatra to Delhi. Their aim is to create awareness among people misusing pro-women Articles in the Constitution.

With all the required things on their tricycle, Santoshkumar Potadar and his wife Geeta expect to complete their journey to the national capital on foot  in 20 to 25 days.

They will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, urging them to amend Section 498A in the IPC and Section 125 of the CrPC to prevent women from filing false cases against men and their families.

The couple also wants a law that would enforce punishment for women who file false cases. The duo, who started their journey on February 20, reached Maharashtra on Monday. The couple says that a few years ago they were on the brink of separation. The family went through hell when Geeta filed a false dowry harassment case against her husband. But when she saw her husband’s trauma while often facing the police, she told the police the truth. Throughout their journey, the couple have been visiting panchayats, where they hold meetings with the people. They urge women not to file false cases of atrocities against their husbands and in-laws, and the men not to harass women.

Geeta says she repented after seeing the police deal with her family. Potadar, a graduate, said the padayatra was his wife’s idea.
