BENGALURU: The Siddaramaiah government came under fire on Sunday, this time from Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa, for its ‘discriminatory’ demolition drive on lakebeds.
Thimmappa said the government was entirely responsible for the mess. He said the government was punishing innocent and economically disadvantaged citizens for its blunders. “There is no administration worse than this. The government could have taken a judicious decision to protect the interests of its innocent citizens,” he said.
Expressing displeasure at the government’s stand to go ahead with demolition of houses on lakebeds in private layouts, while sparing big builders and those in BDA Layouts, Thimmappa said, “Nobody has descended directly from heaven. All are equal. The government should not discriminate. The law should be applied equally for all.”
Speaking to reporters here, Thimmappa said he too had been allotted a BDA site in Dollars Colony Layout on Lingannanakere many years ago.
“We have built a home on it. Now it is not right on the part of the government to say that the construction is illegal,” he said. He asked the government to introspect on its actions. “There is no bigger mistake than punishing the innocent to cover up its (govt) mistake. I will take the issue up with the government,” he said.
