BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation seeking directions to the State Prisons Department to shift AIADMK leader Sasikala from Parappana Agrahara to women's prison in Tumakuru.
The petition filed by Tamil Nadu based social activist, Traffic Ramaswamy, also sought a direction to the department not to allow ministers from TN to meet Sasikala in Parappana Agrahara, where she was housed in city.
During the hearing, the government advocate submitted that the visitors were allowed to meet Sasikala in prison as per the Karnataka Prison Manual and that there is no violation of the same.
Recording the submission, the division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar dismissed the petition.
Sasikala and two others were convicted in a disproportionate assets case. Her conviction in February, 2017 ruled her put of electoral politics for at least 10 years, putting an end to her political ambitions following former Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalitha’s death.
