MANGALURU: Despite facing flak for ignoring the country-wide ban on r ed beacon, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader has remained stubborn and refused to remove the light installed on his two SUVs.
The SUV parked near Circuit House in Kadri continue d to have the red beacon on Tuesday. Khader had
told mediapersons on Monday that he had received the vehicles with the red beacon installed on them. Thus, he would not remove them unless Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered him to do so.
Efforts to contact Khader who was in Bengaluru proved futile.
Sources close to the minister informed that Khader had decided to remove the red beacon light only after receiving specific directions in this regard from Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).
On Monday, the minister had said, “It is the state government which has given me this car and I do not have any right to alter it. If instructions to remove the red beacon comes from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,
I will then obey and remove the beacon.”
