MANGALURU: Three security guards of an agriculture credit co-operative bank in Kotekar near Mangaluru were mysteriously found dead on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Umesh, Somanath and Santosh. It is suspected that the trio who were sleeping inside the bank might have been hit by lightning causing their death.

The region had witnessed heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunderstorms on Monday night.

Sources said there was a dacoity attempt on the bank about six months ago. However, the police are still to clarify the cause of death.

The incident came to light when the bank opened on Tuesday morning and staff alerted the police. As the news spread, a huge number of people gathered at the bank.
