DHARWAD: A 26-year-old man, who was to be married on the 26th of this month, died allegedly due to lack of timely treatment as a result of the indefinite strike by private hospital doctors across Karnataka.
Karthik Rokhade, a resident of Hosayallappur and a daily wage worker, suffered chest pain on Thursday morning. Family members rushed him to a couple of private hospitals but the hospital staff refused to attend to the patient. Left with no other option, the family members took him to the district Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Bitter over the way the medical emergency was handled by the hospitals, family members said that the current method of the protest was claiming the lives of loved ones of many.
Krishna Chavan, a friend of Rokhade, said, "Doctors might have forgotten the oath they take before joining the profession. It is a service-oriented profession, not a business to invest and make a profit. Let these doctors also give-up treating important persons as well, why are they targeting the common man?" he questioned.
