BELAGAVI: Cops who quit their jobs before completing five years of service will find now be fined. The police department took the decision to reportedly avoid wasting of funds that it spent to train recruits.
Sub-Inspectors would be imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh would be levied on the personnel the personnel below that grade if they leave the job before the stipulated period. About 250 to 300 personnel mainly from constable to Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) grade quit the job in the state in recent months. Reasons ranged from getting another job, alleged harassment from the higher-ups, work and family burden. Government spends Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh on each candidate’s training before they join duty. Authorities said that the money spent on trained personnel is wasted when they leave the job and it would spend the same amount to train and recruit other personnel for the vacated posts.
Those selected for Karnataka state Reserve Police (KSRP), City and District Armed Reserve Forces and Civil police are given a nine-month training before their posting. A circular in this regard has been sent to all the Inspector Generals (IGs) of the state. Higher officials says the recruitment process - from inviting people for the job till completion of the trainig period - would take about one-and-a-half year and later on a minimum of three years for the trained personnel to join to the services.
Some quit early
As many as 55 of the 100 candidates attended the recruitment rally held here recently. The attendees passed in all the tests and also completed the nine-month training successfully. However, after getting posted to the services, about 5 to 6 personnel left the job for various reasons, authorities said. Officials said most of those who joined constable and sub-inspector posts were graduates who simultaneously write other competitive examinations as well. They get job offers from other departments and they end up quitting their police job for the same.
The department, earlier used to undertake a promise from Sub Inspectors on a Rs 100 Stamp Paper that they would pay Rs 50,000 to the department if they leave the job before completion of five years of service. Moreover, there was no such rule for the constables.The new rule states that Sub-Inspectors and constables give undertaking on a Rs 500 Stamp Paper that they would pay Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively, to the department if they leave the job before completion of 5 year service. The undertaking should be given before reporting to training.
