Rs 20,000 per km to be spent on filling potholes: H D Revanna

BENGALURU:In a bid to reduce the number of potholes in state highways and major district roads, the State government will spend Rs 20,000-Rs 25,000 per km to repair them, Public Works Department Minister H D Revanna said here on Thursday.

Addressing a press meet, Revanna said instructions have been given to officials of the department to start the pothole filling process. While the potholes will temporarily be filled with rocks and gravel, it will be filled properly after the rainy season. The objective is to ensure that people are not inconvenienced during monsoon, he said.

“A total of Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated to Karnataka under CRF of which only Rs 500 crore is sanctioned annually to the state. Since it will take 14 years for the Central government to release the entire amount, we have requested Union Minister Nitish Gadkari to release the amount,” he said.He said precautionary measures have been taken. Dilapidated bridges across the state have been identified and instructions have been given to divert traffic.
