MANGALURU: Mangaluru is going to have its own literature festival over the weekend. The event, titled ‘Mangaluru Lit Fest 2018’ will be held on November 3 and 4. Several eminent literary figures, including writers S L Bhyrappa, David Frawley and B M Hegde, are scheduled to participate in the festival in Karnataka’s coastal city.

The theme of the event is ‘The Idea of Bharat,’ which will involve an intellectual discourse about the ancient wisdom of peace, brotherhood and universal well-being, conducted by some of the finest literary minds from across the globe, according to the organisers.

The organising committee members, Rohinaksha Shirlal, Shreeraj Gudi and Vasanth Kumar Perla, told media on Tuesday that the Karavali region has made rich contributions in the field of literature, especially to Kannada literature.

Doyens of Kannada literature, such as M Govinda Pai, Shivarama Karanth and Panje Mangeshwar Rao, hailed from the region, they said, adding that besides writing classics, these writers introduced new forms of literature in Kannada. While such events are held in several capital cities, a tier-II city like Mangaluru hosting its own literature festival is something unique, the organisers added.
