Challakere police inspector Umesh booked for raping, tormenting cousin

The inspector of police, accused of raping his cousin, has been placed under suspension.

CHITRADURGA: GB Umesh, police inspector at Challakere police station in Chitradurga district, was on Sunday booked on charges of raping his cousin for the past five years.SP K Parashuram told reporters here on Monday, “The inspector has been suspended. A search is on to arrest him.”

In her complaint, the victim stated that her family had a land dispute and on her mother’s request, Umesh, who was then posted as an inspector in Davangere, helped them in resolving it in 2017. She alleged that the inspector asked her to meet him in Davangere on September 13, 2017, to discuss the land dispute issue.

When she went there, the inspector raped her and threatened her not to reveal it to anyone. After that Umesh used to call her frequently. When she did not respond, he started visiting her house. Fearing the inspector, she moved to a new place. But Umesh, who got wind of this, started going there and harassing her sexually.

According to the complainant, the inspector has two wives and wanted her to live with him as his third wife. She alleged that she had an abortion on October 2, 2021 at a nursing home in Challakere, where Umesh is posted. Umesh had forced her many times in the past to take abortion pills.
