BENGALURU: Students of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), who have been protesting against the Karnataka Examination Authority’s (KEA) recruitment policy, got an opportunity to take their concerns directly to Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday.
During the inauguration of the Bengaluru India Nano Summit, the students submitted a petition to the Chief Minister seeking intervention, as Home Minister Priyank Kharge also joined the interaction.
The students have been protesting against KEA’s decision to allow BE and B Tech students to apply for the positions of Agriculture Officer (AO) and Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO), arguing that only those with agricultural specialisations should be allowed to compete for the posts.
The CM told the students that it is due to the amendments made to the rules during the previous BJP government’s tenure that this problem has arisen today for agricultural degree holders.
He assured them that instructions have been given to the senior officials concerned to resolve this issue legally and positively as soon as possible. The CM also asked the students to end the protest. “Our government has taken steps to eliminate unemployment. Action will be taken to ensure that you are not treated unfairly,” he said.
