KOLLAM: Sathyan Memorial Sports and Arts Club, Mammood, Chandanathope, has announced the Sathyan Memorial Film Awards-2008 on Tuesday. Announcing the awards at a news conference, club president A. Sharafudeen, secretary S. Radhakrishnan and Actress Kalpana said they had decided to make it a national award from this year.   K.J. Yesudas will be given the award considering his comprehensive contributions to the cinema.  Sathyan Anthikkad is the best Malayalam director. Sreenivasan is selected as the best Malayalam actor. Prabhu is selected for best Tamil actor award. Usha Uthup is selected for meritorious contribution to the music and TV sectors.  Other awards are: best director (Tamil) - Thankarbachan; best actress (Malayalam) - Meena; best actress (Kannada) - Navya Nair, best actress (Telugu) - Mamta; best actress (Tamil) - Bhavana; best supporting actor (Malayalam) - Siddique; best supporting actress (Malayalam) - Lakshmi Gopalaswami; best comedian (Malayalam) - Suraj Venjarammoodu; best singer (Malayalam) - Vijay Yesudas; best female singer (Malayalam) - Swetha Mohan; special award (Malayalam) - Akku Akbar; screenplay (Malayalam) - Gireesh; producer (popular Malayalam film) - Salahudeen; debut appearance - Vineeth Sreenivasan; debut appearance- Meera Nandan;  best actor (Television) - Anandkumar; best actress (Television) - Sona Nair; best director (Television) - Sudhi Narayan. Gokulam Gopakumar has been selected for Social welfare award. G. Sumithran and  Smitha Sumithran have been selected for the award for their philanthropic activities. Mathai Jacob has been selected for the Business excellence award.  The office-bearers said  Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the award ceremony to be held on Sathyan Memorial Club premises at 6 p.m. on January 27. Ministers M.A. Baby, N.K. Premachandran and P.K. Gurudasan will distribute the awards.  P. Rajendran MP, cine actor Jayaram, actress Kalpana, A.A. Aziz MLA, BJP leader C.K. Padmanabhan, C.V. Anandabose and Anil Xavier will offer felicitations.
