KOTTAYAM: The Sahithya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society (SPCS), the first co-operative society of writers in Asia started as early as 1945 and witnessing a small revival, plans to construct a four-storeyed building - a commemorative venture to honour the late Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai. V N Vasavan MLA and SPCS president Sivaraman Cheriyanadu said that of late, the society was helping writers and publishers address some of their basic problems.
“The LDF Government is doing a great job by helping the revival of the society”, said V N Vasavan MLA. The society has contributed its might to set up co-operative libraries and around Rs 1.5 crore has been allotted for buying books.
With the help of Sahakaranam Samuhiya Keraliyam programme a new scheme is being set up along with the Sahakaranam Navarathnam lottery fund for the revival of SPCS, he said.
Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran has taken keen interest on this project, SPCS office-bearers revealed.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony of the building with an outlay of Rs 1 crore will be held at the SPCS headquarters here at 3 p.m.
on December 18. Sudhakaran will lay the foundation stone.
SPCS director B Sasikumar and N Pradeepkumar were also present during the press meet.
