THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The purveyors of alternate cinema have made a clean sweep of the Kerala State Film Awards-2008.

Two films that are yet to get a commercial release, Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s `Oru Pennum Randanum’ and Madhusoodanan’s `Bioscope,’ have won 10 of the 29 categories of the state film awards. Another five were pocketed by the yet-to-be-released `Vilapangalkkappuram’ and `Bhoomimalayalam,’ the two films made by the other stalwart of non-commercial Malayalam cinema, T V Chandran.

And Lal, the man who had shone more as writer, director and producer, turned out to be the dark horse of 2008 by winning the coveted ‘Best Actor’ award for his portrayal of an emotionally- ravaged police constable in `Thalappavu,’ the film that gave Madhupal the award for the best debut director.
