THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government will order a judicial probe into the Cheriyathura police firing which claimed five lives.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan announced the decision after an all-party meeting held here on Monday.

He also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the dependents of those killed in the firing. A financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh will be given to those who are seriously injured.

Meanwhile, the toll rose to five with the death of Firose, 15, at the Medical College hospital on Monday morning.

Various Muslim organisations have called a 12-hour har tal in Thiruvananthapuram district on Tuesday in protest against the death of five persons in the Cheriyathura- Beemapally violence.

The hartal will be observed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
